Tolga Öztorun Protects Street Animals
On 2 May 2010 Sabancı Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" program hosts Tolga Öztorun, a manager in a tourism company, actively works to raise awareness on animal rights.
Tolga Öztorun produced a movie depicting the dangers and conditions that street animals face. The movie starring Sevinç Erbulak and Emre Karayel, with several other Turkish movie stars including Ayla Algan, Derya Alabora, and Lale Mansur, is the first movie on the street animals in Turkey and has received great feedback from the society.
Tolga Öztorun tries to raise awareness on street animals through his movie, interviews, his online newspaper column, and weekly radio show which hosts celebrity guests. He has been working voluntarily as a reporter in an animal shelter run by Fatih Municipality in İstanbul for 6 years. Today 2 thousand animals live in the shelter and Öztorun has a column on the website of the shelter about animal rights.
