Mine Narin Makes a Difference in the Lives of Families and Children with Autism
On 17 January 2010 Sabancı Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" program hosts Mine Narin, the chair of Tohum Autism Foundation, who makes a difference in the lives of families and children with autism and pervasive developmental disorders, through the Tohum Autism Foundation (Tohum).
Established in 2003 Tohum has brought services to more than 15 thousand children with autism and their families. The foundation conducts a first-of-its-kind Autism Screening Project which has served 46,000 children. With the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the Foundation has trained special education teachers and Guidance and Research Center (RAM) trainers.
Mine also advocates and lobbies to improve health and education services for people with disabilities and proposes solutions to problems In addition to the Tohum Autism Foundation, Narin is the member of Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, Education Committee, and Executive Board of Education Reform Initiative (an NGO working to improve education policy and decision making in Turkey). Mine Narin also chairs to Autism Platform which was formed by NGOs established by parents of children with autism, and thanks to her works new NGOs about autism are founded at city levels and they participate in Autism Platform.
