Visionary Women of Karabiga
The seventh Changemaker of the 5th season of Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program to share the unique stories of extraordinary people who contribute to the social development is Karabiga Women’s Cooperative who established the ‘Karabiga Women and Children Center’.
Karabiga Women and Children Center, which is supported by the Sabancı Foundation Social Development Grant Program, works to promote women’s social and economic development.
At the center established in Karabiga district of Çanakkale, trainings are organized in the area of mother and child education, leadership, and women’s rights with the aim of promoting women’s social empowerment. To support women’s economic empowerment, vocational training courses are offered including accounting and sewing classes, with the contribution of the Directorate of Public Education.
A day-care service is provided at Karabiga Women and Children Center to enable pre-school education. There is also a playroom for children and a study room for students so that more women can benefit from the center and women with children can be integrated into the project.
