On 18 April 2010 Sabancı Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" program hosts Kamil Çetin Oraler, who brought together retired teachers living alone to establish a center for the elderly in Tuzla, to be run and sustained by the Kadıköy Health and Education Center Foundation.
Kamil Ç. Oraler is a microbiologist with Ph.D. and established Kadıköy Health and Education Center Foundation (KASEV) with other volunteers in 1986. He has been the chair of KASEV for 24 years and worked to provide better living conditions for elderly people. One of his most important projects is the establishment of KASEV Center for the Aged in Tuzla, Istanbul.
KASEV was formed to provide health services for the teachers who were the members of Kadıköy Health and Education Center. However, KASEV transformed itself over the years and began to undertake projects for the aging as well as retired teachers. Now, it provides health education, social services, and environmental education for the elderly.
KASEV Center for the Aged was established in Tuzla, İstanbul within the context of Kamil Ç. Oraler's "Center for the Aging Project". KASEV runs the center and thanks to the efforts of Kamil Ç. Oraler, the center receives support from donations. Today 175 elderly stay in the center with doctors, nurses, psychologists, and dietitians, who are available 24 hours. KASEV also organizes many activities such as special caring units, coiffeurs, and various hobby rooms (within the center) and trips and concerts for the residents of the center.
