Today worldwide and in Turkey, hearing impaired people combat with several problems to get access to their rights. To make these problems visible and to create a social transformation, the producer Erdem Dilbaz and the rap artist Fuat Ergin set out from their own expertise and created a new project. The name of the project is "Eller Konuşur" (Hands Speak).
In the project, a band called DEF RAP was founded by three young men with hearing impairment. Songs were written together with band members Oğuzhan Mete, Leon Tufan and Erdem Karayel, and the choreography was prepared. DEF RAP takes the stage now. While Fuat vocalizes the song, the band accompanies with sign language and dancing.
Hands Speak aims to be a solution for lack of communication between people with and without hearing impairment using music and dance. With the new music genre that they created, they also contribute to overcome the prejudices such as believing that it is impossible for people with hearing impairment to be interested in music and dance.
Hands Speak made visible the problems of people with hearing impairments with rap music. It created a new communication way to express themselves. It helped to increase the self-confidence of people with hearing impairments. It created a huge difference both in the music world and in the lives of people with hearing impairments.
