Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program continues in its 5th season to share the unique stories of extraordinary people who contribute to social development. The first Changemaker of the 5th season is Ergin Erenuluğ who implemented the “Village Eggs are at the Cinema” and “Say No to Childhood Obesity” projects.
The projects conducted by Ergin Erenuluğ, who is serving as a teacher in the Kozlu district of Zonguldak, are also supported by the General Directorate of Youth and Sports, District National Education Directorate, Public Education Directorate, and Kozlu Municipality. The children living in the district are taken to the cinema in exchange for two eggs. In the “Village Eggs are at the Cinema” project, the children living in the villages are selected with the help of school principals. Then, the students are taken to the cinema with the buses of the Kozlu Municipality. The cinema tickets are bought by the administrators of a shopping center which is among the sponsors of the project and the Directorate of Youth and Sports distributes juice and popcorn to the students.
In the first year of the project, 100 students from 9 villages had the opportunity to go to the cinema. In the second phase, an additional 150 students are planned to be included in the project.
The eggs, brought by the students to go to the cinema, are used by Ergin Erenuluğ’s another project called “Say No to Childhood Obesity” which is also supported by the Kozlu Municipality, Public Health Directorate, Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, and the Merchants and Craftsmen Cooperative. Within the project, the eggs are distributed to primary school students for breakfast and the project team calculates their body mass index. Children facing the risk of obesity are determined and their families are contacted. The Directorate of Youth and Sports guides those children into sports.
